The 67th Season Starts at Five Mile Point on Sunday

KIRKWOOD, NY – Five Mile Point Speedway was unfortunately affected by the weather on Saturday, resulting in the postponement of the open practice session. However, all systems are set and ready for the highly anticipated 67th Season Opener tomorrow (Sunday, April 2nd). The races will commence at 5 p.m., and what’s more, kids 12 years old and younger will be granted free admission.

A magnificent opening day afternoon of racing is about to commence the 67th consecutive season opener in an outstanding manner. The Crate Sportsman teams are gearing up for the first event of the season. Additionally, there will be regional touring races for both the Xcel 600 Modifieds and Tobias Slingshots. The “Tommy Boy 20” annual Factory Stock opener will be accompanied by the first race of the Four Cylinder “Fantastic Five” program scheduled for this season at Five Mile Point Speedway. Modified race teams will have the opportunity to practice in three practice rounds, which will be incorporated into the racing program for those teams.

On Sunday, the races will kick off at 5 p.m. with the 67th season opening event. The GRIT Crate Sportsman Series will engage in a 30-lap opening event for their series this season. Race teams from all across the northeast will gather at the quarter-mile oval for this special event with a $1,000 prize, known as the third annual “Coldcracker” event.

Back in 1951, Anna and Irving Heath inaugurated the historic Five Mile Point Speedway. This race holds the distinction of being one of the oldest continuously operated speedways in the entire United States. This season marks the 67th consecutive year of racing. Andrew Harpell, the current owner of the speedway, is the grandson of the track’s founders, Anna and Irving Heath.

The 67th consecutive season opener is slated for Sunday, April 2nd, with the GRIT Crate Sportsman season opener taking the spotlight. The race time is 5 p.m. The Modified season opener will be held on Sunday, April 9th, featuring the first race of the Sunday Summer Slam Series at the speedway.
