Airborne, Utica-Rome Speedways join DIRTcar Northeast in 2017 as sportsman modified homes

DIRTcar Northeast Announces New Sportsman Modified Home Tracks

In the exciting world of dirt track racing, DIRTcar Northeast officials are beaming with pride as they announce the addition of three remarkable New York facilities as Sportsman Modified home tracks for the 2017 season. This development has elevated the number of sanctioned DIRTcar Sportsman Modified tracks to an impressive 17 for the upcoming year, adding even more fuel to the thrilling racing action.

One of the notable additions is Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY. In 2017, this track is making a triumphant return to the dirt surface, with promoter John Walker at the helm of the conversion process. From weekly hosting of the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds to a highly anticipated North Region tour event in September, Airborne is set to become a hotspot for racing enthusiasts. What’s more, it has also become the newest addition to the prestigious Super DIRTcar Series tour, with the Big-Block Modifieds gracing its half-mile oval on Thursday, July 6.

Freedom Motorsports Park, located in Delevan, NY, provides a home away from home for drivers in the southwestern region of the state under the astute guidance of Bob Reis. This 1/3-mile clay oval offers Friday night racing from May to September, just a short drive southeast of Buffalo, attracting a loyal following of fans.

Utica-Rome Speedway, managed by the dynamic Bill and Kim Shea, is a crucial central New York home track with a well-established base of Sportsman Modified drivers. In addition to becoming a Sportsman Modified home track, it will also host three DIRTcar Sportsman Modified series events in 2017, including two in the east region and one in the central region, further solidifying its position in the racing landscape.

The three New York tracks join an esteemed group of 14 other facilities in the Northeast as DIRTcar Sportsman Modified home tracks. These include Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Brewerton Speedway, Fonda Speedway, Fulton Speedway, Mohawk Speedway, Ramsomville Speedway, and Weedsport Speedway in New York, as well as Ontario tracks Brockville Ontario Speedway, Cornwall Motor Speedway, Humberstone Speedway, and Merrittville Speedway, along with Quebec’s Autodrome Drummond, Autodrome Granby, and LeRPM Speedway. These tracks offer valuable Home Track Bonus Points to nearly 500 Sportsman Modified drivers across the Northeast, serving as a crucial stepping stone for those vying for the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series title and various DIRTcar Northeast programs.

It has been previously announced that the 2017 edition of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series will adopt a regional format, with the schedule divided into four regions – North, West, Central, and East. Regional and combined series events will take place at 23 tracks, totaling 32 events, with negotiations ongoing to add even more race dates to enhance the excitement and competitiveness.
