Freezing Temps Lead to Lincoln Speedway Closure

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – Overnight, the freezing temperatures caused the racing surface to turn into ice. With the forecast indicating that the freezing temperatures would persist throughout the morning and into the afternoon, the promoters of Lincoln Speedway had no choice but to regretfully cancel this weekend’s second racing program of 2017.

Last weekend, Danny Dietrich endured a marathon day and managed to claim victory in the 2017 season-opening Ice Breaker 30. It was a day that initially welcomed fans with spring-like conditions, but violent thunderstorms soon disrupted the program. After several hours and a significant drop in temperature, Fred Putney and his track prep team worked hard to restore the racing surface to a race-ready state, enabling the dedicated fans present to witness the opening of the 2017 season at the Abbottstown oval.

This weekend, the overnight temperatures in the teens froze the 3/8th-mile high-banked oval’s racing surface. Even after waiting for an extra day, it was clear that there would be no temperatures above freezing to thaw the surface, compelling the promoters to call off this weekend’s second racing program of 2017.
