RANSOMVILLE, NY – The Sid Jeffery Memorial for the Sportsman is set to take place on Friday, August 4, 2017, with Performance Mfg Inc. and Jeffery Machine presenting the thrilling racing program.
Sid Jeffery was a renowned figure in the Ransomville community for numerous years. Over the course of time, he lent a helping hand to quite a few racers, such as Jim Borget, Mike Jeffery, and most recently, Greg Martin. Back in the mid 1980’s through the 90’s, Sid owned the cars that claimed victory in feature races at Genesee Speedway, Tri-County, Perry Raceway, and all three tracks in the Niagara Region. With Mike Jeffery at the wheel, they achieved glorious triumphs at Humberstone, Merrittville, and Ransomville. While Mike was driving for Sid, he earned the prestigious title of the 1988 DIRT Rookie of the Year. The current crew chief for Super DIRTcar Series driver Larry Wight and former crew chief for Billy Decker, Scott Jeffery, embarked on his journey by working on the Mike Jeffery racers. Sid made a comeback in 2010 to assist Greg Martin in his Sportsman career. The dynamic duo clinched the 2014 Ransomville Speedway Sportsman track championship, as well as the RUSH Touring Series Sportsman Championships in both 2014 and 2015.
The special $1,000-to-win event for the Sportsman will be conducted similar to a DIRTcar Sportsman Tour race, featuring Group Time Trials and a redraw on the front straightaway. The race will also boast a DIRTcar Touring purse. On the racing card that evening, it will mark the very first visit from the PA Vintage Modifieds. Additionally, the Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds, Gippsters Collison 4 Bangers, and the Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman will also grace the racing card.
