Brian Brown: Hiccup Keeps from Podium Finish – DTD Excl

Brian Brown is one of those top drivers who doesn’t regularly race with the Craftsman World of Outlaws and hasn’t been a consistent competitor in Florida every year. He made his way to Volusia Speedway Park for this year’s edition of the DIRTcar Nationals and has been performing quite well, achieving a fast time and racing alongside the leaders.

On the opening night of the World of Outlaws season, he placed second in his heat, third in the dash, and for a significant portion of the 30-lap main, he held onto second place. However, he ultimately settled for fourth. Just seven laps into the main, he made contact with the outside wall in turn two on his right rear, and the impact seemed to be rather forceful, potentially causing him some issues. Afterward, outside his trailer, he said, “I was a bit concerned about that hit, but the car continued to feel and run well.”

Continuing, he remarked, “It was my fault. When you race with the World of Outlaws, you have to push the car to the limit every lap.” He was disappointed as he felt he had let second place slip away. Brian explained that the race with Christopher Bell and Brad Sweet was intense, but he noted, “I came up on a car and was indecisive. I waited too long to make a decision, and even a split second with these guys can cost you a lot.”

Volusia is a unique track compared to some others. It is a large, fast half-mile oval. Brian said, “The guys gave me a good car, but ever since we unloaded, I’ve been uncomfortable in it. We are achieving the results, but I just don’t feel at ease. You are out there going at 140 miles per hour, and I simply need to get comfortable in it.”
