BATAVIA, NY – Two successful practice sessions have set the stage for things to really start counting this Saturday.
This Saturday, May 6, Kohorst Custom Homes & Remodeling will present a Super 6 program starting at 6:00 P.M. This will feature the Crate Late Models, Sportsman, 360 Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Bandits all going head-to-head on the 1/3-mile oval.
A unique aspect is that all five adult division champions from 2016 are back to defend their titles this season. Beamer Guzzardi was the inaugural champion of the crate late models, but he’ll have a lot to do to protect his crown in 2017. And he won’t be hard to spot in his bright yellow No. 94.
Kyle Inman dominated the sportsman points throughout last season and shows no signs of slowing down this summer. However, with what is expected to be the highest weekly car counts yet, the sportsman division is sure to be a highly competitive one.
360 Late Model champion Dave DuBois will continue to work double duty as he’ll also be piloting a crate late model. Greg Mrzywka will join him in this extended effort in 2017, as the three-time sportsman winner from last year has also purchased a crate late model.
Veteran Butch Zimmerman and Brad Shepard will look to hold onto their street stock and mini stock titles, respectively. Past Champion Byron Dewitt was strong at the end of last season and will be a threat in the street stocks, while Shepard will have another 2016 champion in the field with Cole Hicks moving up to the adult division. Hicks’ departure from the bandits means a new driver will claim that championship in 2017.
Saturday will mark the start of the first of 20 race dates, including a visit from the ULMS Super Late Models on Thursday, July 6 and the very first Topless Crate Nationals on September 16th and 17th.
Genesee Speedway is located just outside of Batavia on Route 5 at the Genesee County Fairgrounds, featuring Saturday Night racing on the 1/3-mile dirt oval with the Crate Late Models, Sportsman Modifieds, 360 Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Bandits.
